Wakanda Forever: Black Panther Keeps Smashing Box Office Records

Black Panther has now been in theaters for nine weeks, but the superhero blockbuster has long legs. While it might be slowing down, the film continues to smash box office records. As of last week, Black Panther hauled in $676 million at the domestic box office. That’s more then the first three superheroic debuts for Iron Man ($318 million), Thor ($181 million) and Captain America ($176 million) combined! All hail the king, and the king is T’Challa!

On the one hand, this is a testament to the stunning success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther builds on the confidence and goodwill Marvel Studios have banked with audiences over the past decade. It doesn’t hurt that Black Panther is a great action movie! But this isn’t just another cog in the machine.

Black Panther is an amazing movie that celebrates cultural and racial diversity, gender equality, and Afrofuturism. It’s a triumphant film that shattered Hollywood expectations for “another” superhero movie with the fifth-largest opening weekend in history and stunning overseas sales. It beat Titanic at the box office and is now the highest-grossing movie in the MCU. It will even be the first movie shown in Saudi Arabia since theaters were closed in 1979!

So, when will they announce the sequel?
