The new movie is a loose adaptation of their classic 1998 cartoon version of the same story about a brave young woman who takes her aged father’s place in the army, pretending to be a man, to save her family and defend her country. (The original inspiration for the movie, the Ballad of Mulan was written in the 6th century in China.)
We have to be honest, we’re a little disappointed that Mulan is going to be such a loose adaptation of the cartoon. There’s no sexy Captain Li Shang or wise-cracking Mushu. According to reports, Mulan (2020) will not be a musical. So, no “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” with hundreds of hunky extras?
Okay, okay, we’re still pretty excited for the upcoming movie. Mulan, starring Liu Yifei, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Gong Li, and Yoson An, is set for release on March 27, 2020.
