You know them as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry but, behind the gilded doors of Kensington Palace, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are just two normal(-ish) people in love. And, like most people in a committed relationship, these two lovebirds have nicknames for each other!
In public, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the “Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” the latest and most popular members of the Royal Family. They have to follow the protocols laid down by the Royal Palace in how they dress, speak, and communicate with the press. No wonder they do their best to stay classy and keep mum, as the Brits would say, about what goes on behind closed doors—the tabloid media pays excessive, even unhealthy, attention to every subtle look and fancy hat!
That said, this is nothing but a heartwarming tidbit about their relationship—not salacious gossip. Before and after the wedding, sources close to the family were willing to share a few details about the couple of the year. It turns out that Prince Harry calls his wife “Meg,” which is cute but not unexpected. On the other side of the royal marriage, Meghan Markle calls her husband “Haz!” We have to wonder where that comes from, but it’s pretty adorable!
It’s not just the newlyweds that have cute pet names for each other. It turns out that Prince Charles calls Meghan Markle “Tungsten,” one of the strongest metals in the world. That’s not only awesome but also exactly what you’d expect from a curmudgeonly old father-in-law that you’ve won over with your grit and spirit. As for Prince Harry, his friends have long called him “Spike” and “Potter,” which is just too much. Of course Prince Harry’s friends call him Potter. Thank you, England.
As for us, we just have to call Meg and Haz by their proper titles: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After all, they deserve a little credit for all their hard work amid reports they’re backing off from the press due to the undying (and nasty) frenzy over Meghan Markle.
