Queen Elizabeth is on her annual summer retreat at Balmoral Castle and, this year, she will be joined by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—that’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to those of us in America. This is the first time that Meghan Markle and her husband will visit the estate as a married couple, and represents another milestone for the royal newlyweds.
The Queen has summered in Aberdeenshire, Scotland for many years, spending August to October at the castle first built by Prince Albert in 1852. The isolated estate provides a welcome relief from the heat, and the press. If you’re a big fan of riding, shooting, or fishing, than welcome to Balmoral Castle!
We have to wonder if Meghan Markle will enjoy such a…damp…vacation with her dour in-laws. Then again, she might be eager to escape the media and spend some quality time with her new family, after her estranged father and sister continue to make the rounds in the tabloids—shopping for attention. Ugh, gross.
Well, like Queen Victoria said in her journal about the estate: “All seemed to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils”
