Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States of America and is can be found along the Potomac River near the east coast of the country. The city was founded in 1791 and was named in honor of President George Washington.
Washington, D.C. is the political center of the country and contains the Congress, the Supreme Court, the White House and other federal government buildings. Other well known places to visit include the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the White House, the different war memorials, the Smithsonian Institution Building, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery of Art.
