The official name of Madagascar is the Republic of Madagascar. Madagascar is an island country located in the Indian Ocean near Southeast Africa. Madagascar boasts of being the fourth largest island in the world. The overall area of Madagascar is 587,041 km2 which makes it the 46th largest country in the world. It has been estimated that over 22,400,000 people live here. The capital city of Madagascar is called Antanarivo.

Madagascar is one of the poorest countries of the world because it has a GDP per capita of only $438. It has been estimated that 70 percent of the Madagascar’s population lives below the poverty line. Also, 70 percent of its people live with less than a dollar each day.
