Malawi is also known under its official name Republic of Malawi. Malawi is located in Southeast Africa and it is a landlocked country. It was previously known as Nyasaland. The total area of Malawi is 118,484 km2 which makes it the 99th largest country in the world. It has been estimated that around 16,400,000 people live in Malawi. The capital city is called Lilongwe.
Malawi is considered to be one of the least developed and one of the poorest countries in the world. The reason for this is that over 80% of Malawi people are involved in agriculture. The GDP per capita of Malawi is only $330.
