#23 – Benin

The official name of the country Benin is Republic of Benin and it was previously officially known as Republic of Dahomey. Benin is a country located in the West African region. Republic of Benin has a territory of 114,763 km2 which makes it the 100th largest country in the world. It is estimated that Benin is inhabited by 10,880,000 people. The capital city of this African country is Porto-Novo while the largest city is Cotonou.

Benin is a very poor country and it is estimated that about a third of the population of this African country live below the poverty line. A third of the population of Benin live with less than $1.25 per each day.
