The official name of Haiti is the Republic of Haiti. Haiti is located in the Western Hemisphere, on the island of Hispaniola, which is a part of the Greater Antilles Caribbean archipelago. The total area of Haiti is 27,750 km2 which makes it the 140th largest country in the world. According to several estimates, it is believed that Haiti is inhabited with 10,605,000 people. The capital city of Haiti is Port-au-Prince.

Despite a developed tourism sector, Haiti is among the poorest countries of the world and it is the poorest country of the American region. The main reasons for this country being so poor include corruption, a lack of health care, and poor infrastructure. The GDP per capita in Haiti is $1,000.
