25 Poorest Countries In The World

#17 – Rwanda

The official name of Rwanda is the Republic of Rwanda. Rwanda is located both in the Central Africa region and in the East Africa region. The total area of this African country is 26,338 km2 which makes it one of the smallest African countries and the 145th largest country in the world. It is estimated that over 11,200,000 people live in Rwanda. The capital city of Rwanda is called Kigali.

Rwanda was a few years ago in the top 5 poorest countries of the world because of the 1994 genocide which caused a massive drop of GDP per capita of this country. Luckily, today the GDP per capita of Rwanda is around $1,700, but it is still a low GDP and it will take a lot of time for Rwanda to heal economically from the 1994 genocide.
