2. Karosta Prison Hotel, Latvia
During the Tsar reign of Russia and USSR, the Karosta Prison in Latvia served as a maximum prison for over 100 years. It was one of the most notorious prisons in the world where people, who fell on the wrong side of the Tsar and the communist party, would be brutalized and forced to spend the rest of their lives in, that’s if they were lucky enough not to face instant death. Today, brave tourists have the chance of spending a night in this prison-turned hotel and enjoy the “the full prisoner experience.”
In a truly unique fashion, guests will undergo communist-era prison conditions including verbal abuse, warning gunfire, death threats and even cries of despair from fellow inmates, in this case; fellow guests. With its gruesome history and atrocities, spending a night here is surely not for the lily-livered.
