Meet the Winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest

This dog proves that beauty is more than fur deep! Emerging from a crowded field of hideous competitors, the Sonoma-Marin Fair has crowned Zsa Zsa the World’s Ugliest Dog. This striking bulldog has earned a trophy—and a spot in our hearts.

Zsa Zsa, the World’s Ugliest Dog

The World’s Ugliest Dog Show is intended to show potential adopters that the perfect dog doesn’t need to look like much. The show wants to raise public awareness about the importance of adoption. (We might add the perils of over-breeding to that list, as this is one messed up bulldog.) This year’s winner is a perfect candidate for the show’s mission. Zsa Zsa spent five years at a puppy mill in Missouri before she was purchased by Underdog Rescue and found her forever home with owner Megan Brainard.

Zsa Zsa and Brainard earned $1,500 and a lot of attention on social media when they won “ugliest in show” this year. The nine-year-old English bulldog from Anoka, Minnesota has a pronounced underbite, lolling tongue that can’t fit in her mouth, cataracts, and jagged teeth. Somehow, she still cute!

Chinese Crested

Second place went to Scamp, a scrappy-looking mutt, and third place went to Josie, a tattered Chinese crested. We’ve never heard of the Chinese crested until now but, after one look, we know why this breed is a frequent winner in the ugly dog pageant world. (Which exists, apparently.) Josie was the reigning champion between 2003 and 2005.

In the end, the show wants to remind everyone that all dogs need a loving family. These scrabbly, weird, ugly little dogs overflow with love and joy. That’s true beauty. Adopt, don’t buy, and find an ugly dog a home in your heart!
