25 Diseases You Wouldn’t Like To Have

#21 – Kuru

This rare disease is so scary, it has a to complement it – The Death Laughter – and it’s a fatal disease. Luckily it’s confined to just one part of the world, a specific area in New Guinea.

To be more precise, only the people of the Fore tribe develop Kuru. This illness happens as a result of cannibalism. Members of the Fore tribe are known for their cannibalism and flesh eating, but they are among rare cannibals who eat cooked human brain. After the consummation of the brain, most of the Fore tribe members start feeling very ill and they are unable to stand and eat and that already marks the beginning of Kuru. About a year after the development of the symptoms, people die of Kuru in a comatose state. Luckily, Kuru is almost extinct due to the efforts being made to prevent cannibalism.
