The last thing any bride wants is a big crisis the week before the wedding! Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, will no longer be attending his daughter’s wedding on May 19. The Daily Mail revealed that Mr. Markle had staged paparazzi photos in the lead-up to the wedding. Markle has dropped out of the wedding to avoid any further embarrassment to his daughter or the Royal Family.
Frankly, this is a sad turn of events and a whole lot of bother over nothing. According to Samantha Markle, Meghan’s estranged half-sister who is not invited to the wedding, she encouraged her father to work with paparazzi to stage a few photographs in the weeks before the wedding. Samantha was frustrated by the way the photographers were portraying her father in a negative light. She hoped to portray her father in a more positive light in staged scenes that showed him reading a book about Great Britain, looking at photos of his daughter and Prince Harry, and getting a fitting for his suit. Really, which celebrity hasn’t tried to work with the paparazzi? Samantha’s real mistake was not hiring a publicist to arrange the whole affair.
We’re sure that Meghan Markle is disappointed by this turn of events. Kensington Palace released a restrained statement on Monday:
This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.
Frankly, the paparazzi should extend a little more respect to Thomas Markle. Mr. Markle was set to walk his daughter down the aisle until this “scandal” broke last week. Now, Megan Markle will marry Prince Harry before her father even has a chance to meet her fiancé.
Update! Looks like Mr. Markle won’t be able to attend even if he can patch things up with the bride-to-be; he’s scheduled for heart surgery on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. According to the family, he needs further medical intervention to repair damage suffered last week during a heart attack. He won’t be able to walk his daughter down the aisle on Saturday.
