25 Poorest Countries In The World

#21 – Gambia

The official name of the country of Gambia is the Islamic Republic of Gambia. Gambia is located in the West African region. One interesting fact about Gambia is that it is the smallest country in Africa with a total area of only 10,689 km2. This also makes it the 164th largest country of the world. According to the 2013 Gambian census, this country is inhabited with 1,882,450 people. The capital city of Gambia is called Banjul.

Gambia is a very poor country considering the fact that the GDP per capita of this country is only $1,715. Another problem of Gambia is that it lacks educational infrastructure and the overall literacy level is quite low. Luckily, as the years pass, Gambia’s economy improves, but it will take a long time for this country to not be considered poor anymore.
